I love the trend of using found office supplies on your layouts. Heidi Swapp does this all the time with notebook papers, ledger papers, and even graph papers and the results are phenomenal! Today your creative prompt is to look at the office supply aisle for inspiration...there are some great finds there that you can incorporate into your scrapbooking.
Just to give you an idea for what's out there, these are some paperclips that I picked up at Target last week.
They are so cute and when they hook over the edge, they look like little hearts. If you have concerns about acidity... for papers, scan them and then print them onto acid free cardstock. For metal bits like paperclips, you can coat them with paint or even a clear-coat so that you don't have to worry about rust.
