12 Days of Christmas Creating- Day 2- Two Little Girls' Purses

WARNING: PHOTOS OF ONE OF MIA'S PRESENTS ENCLOSED!!!

Kat is a girly girl. In fact, all the little girls in my family are girly girls and I love it! But Kat is a girly girl without girly props. She has a little stuffed baby pillow that she carries around as her purse. She hooks it on her arm, puts on her jewelry (my watch bands) and will wave goodbye us as she is obviously starting off on her merry way. (horrible photo of Kat, but you get the idea...LOL!)

So I decided that for Christmas that she and Mia, my niece who is 3, needed purses. I picked up some of these little canvas bags at Hobby Lobby (4 for $3 before they are on sale) and set about girly-ing it up...

The results:

I used Unity's November kit of the month for these little purses. The design of that tree and flowers was just perfect for the adding of buttons. I stamped them using StazOn ink. The little bit of coloring was done simply with watercolor pencils (yes, I will use them on EVERYthing!)

The buttons are out of the Autumn Leaves button packs. I know that they are not recommended for children under 3, but Kat takes those Autumn Leaves bags and will play with one for about 2 hours dumping them everywhere, so I think that she is okay with these that have been sewn on very tightly. I did sew each button on with it's own individual thread so that if one falls of, they don't all fall off.

For the ribbons on the handles, I simply took my sewing machine and quickly sewed them on and then tied the little bows and tied them on by hand. Such an easy project and I think that they turned out really cute.

BTW, if you decide that you like this project and go out and buy some of the bags, buy an extra or two because day 5 or 6 (I can't remember which one it is) will feature this sized bag again.

Now how cute are these! You said you did them with watercolor pencils, am I to assume that you are not going to be washing them?

I really love your bags. I've had a blank one that I wanted to embellish for my neice, but I have had a creative block. Thanks for sharing and inspiring me.
