Chapter 2
What had he gotten himself into? How could he have been this idiotic to go out in weather like this? Todd had grown up in Vermont, he knew what these storms were capable of, but no, his 8 ½ months pregnant sister Chloe had been craving some salsa so he had volunteered to go to town and find some.
Salsa, for goodness sake; He was going to get stranded in a snowstorm for salsa. Todd shook his head at the idiocy of it.
He could barely see the road at all anymore and it was getting harder and harder to control his Jeep. Pretty soon, he was going to be in some serious trouble, but the problem was….he had been driving in it for so long that he wasn’t sure exactly where he was any longer. There was just a sea of white outside his frosty windows without any landmarks to point his way.
He had been living in Dallas for the last 10 years working as an attorney for a Fortune 500 oil company. It had been a long time since he had seen weather like this and he hadn’t been home for the holidays long enough to go out and explore the countryside where he grew up yet.
Nothing looked familiar anymore and then, suddenly, something did look the same way it always had. Standing no more than 15 feet in front of the Jeep stood a deer. “Aw, Crap!” Todd tried to swerve, but the snow and ice kept his Jeep from responding as fast as it should have.
Todd felt the impact, heard the shattering windshield, and then felt the blinding panic as the buck came through his windshield right at his head. He tried to avoid the 8 point rack coming at him, but there was nowhere to go and as he swung his head, he caught a glimpse of the forest of trees that he, his Jeep, and his unwelcome passenger were flying towards.
Todd awoke groggily. It was really cold and he couldn’t see or move his head. What had happened to him? He tried to reach up to his head but instead his hand encountered fur. Wait, fur? The deer! Now he remembered. He had hit a deer and now it was with him in the front seat of his Jeep. He was so cold. He had to find a way out of this mess, but first he had to find a way out from underneath this dead (and heavy) deer.
Gingerly fingering around the edge of the deer, and where the pain was most acute, he discovered that one of those deadly antlers was embedded in his right shoulder. Todd had no idea how long he had been unconscious, but it had been long enough that his Jeep was freezing cold and the corpse of the deer was no longer putting off any body heat. If he was going to survive this, he had to get out of there quick and find someplace warm before he froze to death.
Gritting his teeth against the pain, Todd reached up and shoved the deer out and away from him, at the same time, dislodging the antler from his shoulder. Todd hissed as the pain ricocheted throughout his body and his head swam.
Don’t pass out again. Don’t pass out again. Don’t pass out again.
Todd grabbed the door handle and propelled himself out of the car and into the snow bank that was entirely too high for comfort. His head swam with black spots as he felt warm sticky blood dripping down his face and arm. If he didn’t freeze to death, he may just bleed to death. He quickly reached into the Jeep to grab the extra tee that he kept in there. It would work for now to hopefully help staunch the flow of blood.
If possible, it seemed like the snow was falling even more furiously than before, and Todd quickly glanced around trying to get his bearings. He couldn’t see much through the darkness, snow, and swelling eye, but there was a light winking through the trees so that is the way that he headed.
It's obviously still very rough, but you get the idea. And obviously, these are my words so you are not allowed to copy, alter, or re-print them anywhere else without my permission. ;o)

I gotta read the rest of this book!!!;)
WOW! I want more!
Ohhhh, I love it! Will it be SPICY? I hope so! :D
thanks girls. This is still very much in it's infancy as far as writing (~2500 words right now) so there is still a LONG way to go. And yes, Ashley, there is a good chance it will be spicy...she has to get him warm somehow. ;o)
I cannot wait! Cannot. Is that awful? I'm curious as to how you would write that, I think it would be pretty similar to how I would write it.
