Who Does That?!?

Well, obviously we do...over and over again...LOL!

Over the years, we have had some interesting moves with the Air Force:

Our first house that we bought, 15 years ago, I bought (because Ben was in Saudi Arabia) and Ben hadn't seen inside the doorway until closing day.

One time we moved with no plan (i.e. we were moving too far away and didn't have a chance to go try to find a house) and spent 5 months in temporary housing without any of our household goods...Unplanned= Not Good!

One time, we moved and Ben found us a house which I didn't see until we moved in, but it was a rental and we can survive anything for a short time and he actually did pretty well.

Our current house, we rented via the internet. Neither of us had seen it/the neighborhood/nothing until we had the keys in hand to move in.

And of course, we have had our share of base houses which is always a crapshoot with what you get...LOL!

So this time, we were going to do it right. This time we were buying our forever house that we are going to live in for the rest of our lives. We had a trip planned and booked for all of us as a family to go to Texas and find us a house....that we would all see beforehand and that we would all love. That trip is this weekend.

You see where this is going right?

Two weeks ago, a house came on the market and we were in love and were afraid that someone else was going to see it and fall equally in love and that we were going to lose it before we even got a chance to see it. So we quickly booked Ben a flight to Texas to snatch up our perfect house. Well, it turns out that our perfect house was going to give our children's children 2 heads so it wasn't exactly the perfect house that we thought it was.

But Ben was there so he continued to impose on our realtors (who were saints to take him around last-minute when they had a million and a half other things going on that weekend) and look at other houses/San Angelo with no luck.

Just as Ben was leaving town, my dad called him with an address of a house that he had found online so that Ben could drive by and look at it. Ben called me as he sat on the road in front of the house (he had already left the realtors for the weekend) and had me look it up on the internet because the neighborhood, size and style of the lot, and house looked like exactly what we were looking for. From the photos on the internet, the house looked like it had promise, but was really big and dated.

We added it to the list of houses that piqued our interest and kind of left it at that. Ben came home and I gave our realtors a few days of rest before I started sending them lists of houses that we were interested in again. That house was one of the first on the list that I sent the realtor and when she gave me the details of the house, I got that tingling feeling...you know, the one when something is just right.

The house had a craft room!

In addition, to EVERYTHING else on our checklist of wishes of things that we were looking for in a house, it HAD A CRAFT ROOM!!

So we called our realtor and had her go in and take a video tour for us.

We called my parents and arranged for them to go look at the house and approve that we were going to like it as much as we thought.

Then we put a bid on the house!

We have a contract on our forever house and have never seen it in person...
either one of us...
although Ben has seen the outside.

Who Does That?!!?

Well, obviously, WE DO!!

This weekend, we are in Texas...finally getting to see the house that is our forever house that we are already committed to buying. You would think that I would be worried, but quite honestly, I am just excited. I cannot wait to see it in person.

You all are going to get to see our forever house a lot over the next few months because it needs a lot of cosmetic work and I am sure that I will share that as we go along...

I will be back Wednesday with my thoughts after we finally get to see our forever house...Stay Tuned for further details!

So exciting! A CRAFTROOM. That must be realtor speak. It is an ART Studio. I'm sure.

I have enjoyed your blog so much and just love your designs. We are retired Air Force too, although I guess we were lucky enough to be stationed our last 5 years where we were going to retire, so we bought this house 5 years before he retired and have been here ever since.
I hope you are really happy in your new house. It's the roots that I like. Thank you for letting me visit.

As I'm reading this I'm thinking how crazy - then I realised we did the same thing! Left a town thinking we were having a house built by one company on one side of town, 2 days later found that wasn't going to happen, then trusted our realtor to find a new builder, another plot........and then we only stayed 15 months! Can't believe I have been home 2 years already - I miss my crafting time, but I love being back in the UK.
Enjoy your new adventure, and have fun in the craftroom.

WOW - amazing story. Best of luck. I hope it works out well for you - we bought the first and only house we looked at when we moved back to Mineral Wells 26 years ago . . . still live in that house and love it!

All the best! It's not easy finding your ideal home but if this one has a craft room, then it might just be IT! All the best!
