My Summer Project...

Do you have any big summer projects planned?

This is my summertime project....
This is Kat's new bed and as you can see, it is not a normal size for today's bedding. It's about 100-150 years old and is about the same size as a cot. I figure it will be perfect as a toddler bed and then will graduate to a bench that I can use for decorating in my part of the house when she moves up to a full-sized bed. But for now it will be hers and we will decorate it as a daybed.

My plan is to create a plastic mattress cover (since we still have potty-training to go), then I will customize a mattress pad and sheets to fit the bed.

The new color scheme for her room is based off of these gorgeous pillows that I bought at Target. I plan on doing a simple patch quilt with *maybe* a ruffle edge and a whole bunch of matching pillows. (I am thinking along the style of what Alicia does with her patchwork.) I just have to find some perfect fabrics for the project. If you have any fabric suggestions, PLEASE HELP by commenting and letting me know (an added bonus of commenting is that it will put you in the drawing for this stamp kit that I am giving away when I get home)...
We continue to have a fabulous time in Midland. This morning Kat went out in the driveway in her rain boots and spent about an hour splashing in the puddles from the overnight sprinklers. Papa even joined in with her. I cannot wait to upload the photos and share with you all!

Nana held an absolutely fabulous tea party for the girls. You are going to die when you see those cute photos. Mom went all out and even picked up gloves, hats, and the perfect dresses for the party. SO DARN CUTE!!! I have taken about 600 photos since I have been here so it is time to get into serious scrapbooking mode for the rest of the summer! :o) LOVE THAT!

I hope that you are having a fabulous weekend!!

No ideas for fabric, ugh sorry, I wish I COULD sew! I will ask my mother in law later in the week when she comes to visit.

That is such a neat bed! I wish I had suggestions for you, but if I can't buy it at a store...I'd be in trouble!! I'm sure you will come up with something incredibly creative! I'm sure you've had tons of these, but I left an award for you on my blog!

What an amazing bed, I love the timeless beauty of whoever crafted this bed! As I mentioned on FB, it looks like it could have been a rope bed at one time! That's exciting! It reminds me of the Jenny Linn Style.
Suggestions: I love walking through JoAnn's cotton fabric isles because they have all their fabrics sorted by color and you should be able to pick out the aqua's and red fabrics that will catch your eye...I went on-line to a couple of fabric stores with no luck of spotting anything interesting for you. What a neat project you have ahead of you!

Have fun!!

First of I would reccommend taking some time to browse equilter.com (great selection of good fabrics especially for quilting). On that site I found some really cute options and will list them here with product codes, Asian Doll Collection TPLKY5CD, Bamboo Bubbles and Geometrics TTMBO3DA, Esmerelda Flower Pop MMDAPGVR, And I personally love all the prints by Heather Baily, in particular her Pop Garden, Mod Rose Bouquets with the expresso brown background it goes really well with the dark wood tone of the bed itself and includes the color in the pillows you've picked out. Plus what little girl doesn't deserve some pretty flowers in her room. Good luck with your project, it look like it will make a great bed for your girl.
